It is very important for employers to take all proper steps to ensure that their employees are not subjected to racial harassment in the workplace. Such harassment can be extremely harmful to employees.
The man claimed that, while he worked at the plant, coworkers harassed him on the basis of his race. According to the man, this alleged racial harassment included racial slurs and the placement of a stuffed monkey with a noose around its neck on his car.
The man alleged that the company which ran the steel plant failed to take adequate actions to address this alleged racial harassment.
A lawsuit was brought in a federal court by the man against the company which ran the steel plant in connection to these allegations. A trial was held on this matter. The trial went for three weeks. Earlier this week, the jury in this case reached its decision. The jury ruled in the man's favor and awarded him a large monetary judgment.
Racial harassment like that which was alleged in this case can cause a great deal of harm to employees. Thus, one hopes that all employers make sure to take all reasonable steps to protect their employees from racial harassment. No employee should have to worry that they will be subjected to racial harassment at their place of work.
